Our culinary offerings are designed to delight, featuring a range of exquisite dishes prepared with the freshest ingredients. Our accommodation reflects our dedication to cleanliness and comfort, ensuring a restful stay amidst the magnificence of the Mara.
Our reputation for warmth and hospitality is not just a promise, it is a trademark of our service. Whether you are dining under the stars in our outdoor spaces, enjoying a private dinner at our boma, or partaking in a bush breakfast or sundowner, our Team is dedicated to creating memorable moments.
We take pride in our versatile outdoor dining venues, perfect for a romantic dinner or a celebratory event. Our bush breakfasts, boma dinners and sundowners offer a unique opportunity to experience the Mara's natural beauty while enjoying a delicious meal.
Our commitment extends beyond our guests to the community and environment. We support Oloolaimutia Primary School through material donations and teacher sponsorships, and contribute to menstrual health initiatives through our sustainability arm – Land and Life Foundation, providing reusable sanitary kits to ensure that girls in Oloolaimutia can attend school with dignity. We also support Maasai women by providing market space and economic opportunities, and foster local economic development by creating jobs within our Lodge.
In harmony with nature, our Lodge is home to a resident zebra family, baboons, vervet monkeys, and dik diks. Our scenic location offers stunning views of Emboo Valley, the rolling Ngama and Lenganishu hills, surrounded by the unspoilt nature and indigenous trees like the black bark acacias and wild olive.
Our Lodge’s design of round huts and conical roofs is a tribute to the rich Maasai culture, seamlessly integrating traditional aesthetics with modern comfort. Cultural experiences are at the heart of our offerings, from immersive walks to the Manyatta villages to lively Maasai dance performances that enrich our guest’s stay.
Environmental sustainability is a core value. We collaborate with local Maasai guides for environmental clean-ups and tree planting initiatives, champion eco-friendly sanitary products, and practice waste reduction and recycling, including the harvest of used cooking oil for renewable energy.
Our commitment to health and sustainability is reflected in our organic garden, where we cultivate a variety of vegetables and herbs without artificial inputs, promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Our dedication has been recognized with numerous accolades:
As we celebrate nearly 40 years of exceptional service, we look forward to continuing our tradition of excellence and innovation, welcoming guests to experience the magic of Maasai Mara Sopa Lodge. Thank you for being a part of our journey.

Can you tell us more about the unique features and history of Hemingway's Bar at the Lodge?
Hemingway's Bar is a tribute to the legendary American writer Ernest Miller Hemingway, whose 20th-century adventures in Kenya left an indelible mark on our Lodge. Constructed by Hemingway himself between September and December of 1960, this bar is designed in the shape of Africa and reflects his artistic and adventurous spirit. It’s a living museum that preserves the charm of Hemingway's era, complete with lava stone furnishings and historical souvenirs. The bar, which overlooks the stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro, captures the essence of Hemingway’s explorations and his time spent in the Maasai villages. Despite his passing in 1961, Hemingway’s legacy endures here, where every visit offers a glimpse into his extraordinary life and work.
What new additions can guests look forward to at Amboseli Sopa Lodge?
We are excited to introduce Ol Tepesi Point, an exquisite vantage spot on the Kibo lawn. Named after the acacia tortilis tree in the Maasai language, Ol Tepesi offers panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro and is perfect for creating memorable experiences. Whether you are enjoying a romantic sundowner, a champagne breakfast, or a private dinner, this location provides a serene and spectacular setting. Additionally, our newly launched Mbugani Spa offers a range of holistic treatments designed to rejuvenate guests after their safari adventures. The spa’s tranquil environment ensures that whether you are seeking relaxation or a refreshing break from the day's activities, you will leave feeling completely revitalized.
Lastly, what drives your passion in this industry and how does it reflect in your work?
Working in our industry involves daily emotions, expectations, changes, and surprises - no two days are the same. We serve guests, create events, clean rooms, maintain our property to the highest standards, organize romantic private meals, whether breakfast or dinner, and consistently smile while spreading happiness. This is the passion that drives us, and it embodies the essence of what we love doing. Welcome to the Lodge that sits in the Courtyard of the Roof of Africa - the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, and let us create cherished memories for you.
As we navigate through the dynamic landscape of the tourism industry, we take cognizance of the efforts being put by Sopa Lodges in maintaining high standards. Championing sustainable practices and fostering growth while remaining competitive in the hospitality industry is not a walk in the park but requires consistency, zeal and passion - qualities that Sopa Lodges exemplifies.
The recent regulatory changes in the industry underscores the importance of adapting to evolving standards, ensuring exceptional experiences while safeguarding our natural and cultural heritage. We believe Sopa Lodges is leading the way in this regard.” - Raymond Cheruiyot, Acting CEO, Tour Operators Society of Kenya (TOSK).
Committed to advancing sustainability, our Lodge focuses on recycling to reduce reliance on new raw materials, conserve energy, and minimize pollution. The Team is making significant strides toward a cleaner, healthier environment by creatively integrating recycled bottles into stylish decor and efficient irrigation elements, transforming waste into both aesthetically pleasing and functional essentials within the Lodge.
This recycling initiative has been in action for the past three months. To date, the Team has repurposed over 200 bottles, thanks to the dedicated efforts of 15 staff members. The process involves collecting bottles from the bar, sorting, removing stickers, painting and finally, displaying the recycled items.
This project not only promotes sustainability but also fosters creativity and talent among our Team. Together, we are creating a greener future while showcasing innovative art in our surroundings.
